June fun!

The Classroom has seen another busy month in June! We have been having lots of fun doing different activities indoors and out. We have had lots of fun dressing up for our themed days to raise money for our end of year party – the children and aunties have all put in some great effort and everyone looked fantastic. We can’t wait to explore more themed days in the upcoming weeks.

The weather has been so lovely and sunny so the children have been spending the majority of their days in the garden playing in the shade and the water tray to keep cool. We have enjoyed registers outside, listening walks, meditation in the garden to cool down and learning about sun safety and why we need sun hats and sun cream.
Water has been a big interest this month and we have been exploring it in different forms – painting the fence and pavements with paintbrushes and rollers, squirting water to put out chalk ‘fires’, practising our fine motor skills with the pipettes in the water tray, and smashing up ice to free the animals. Staff have followed the interests of the children and created lots of exciting learning opportunities to keep them cool and safe in the sunshine.

There has also been an interestin plants and flowers, learning how they grow and exploring our very own Garden Centre role play area in the garden! Our older children have been honing their maths skills and have been counting coins at the till, measuring plants and spotting different shapes in their environment.

Alongside this, we have been preparing them for school by reading lots of school-ready books, encouraging them to clean their own faces, opening their own food packets at lunchtime, cutting and preparing their own snack and dressing up in uniforms to practise getting ready for school. We have had visits from school teachers and the children have been excitedly talking about their new big schools. Over the next month we will be sad to say goodbye to our friends as some of them leave us for big school, but we are excited to see them take the next big step in their lives!

The children have been learning about the Olympics in preparation for Sports Day. We have been practising our running, racing, throwing and balancing skills in the garden. They are so excited for Sports Day and we can’t wait for this next month.
