November in the Classroom!

November in the Classroom has been a busy one! The children have been exploring their outdoor environment and accessing a wide range of resources. We have enjoyed playing group games, learning about exercise, and have been engaging in imaginative play outdoors. This month has shown us a change in weather – we have gone from sunshine to watching leaves fall off of the trees, and have ended the month exploring the ice and frost.

Children have also noticed that it has gotten darker outside and were excited to talk about visiting Blackpool Illuminations, and some lucky children even got to visit fireworks displays. We have incorporated these exciting events into our planning and the children have enjoys making their own fireworks pictures, swirling glitter around in water, and have enjoyed playing with torches and light up toys in the dark room.

A big focus this month has been problem-solving and teamwork, and the children have been working had together to overcome obstacles. A big interest this month was den building and everybody enjoyed working together to help make dens. We have started to realise that helping each other helps us to form friendships and makes us feel good!
Children have also been practising their fine motor skills, and have been mark making in a variety of ways. We have been mark making both indoors and out, tracing marks in different materials, and we have been introducing writing into our imaginative play by providing children with clipboards and opportunities to write e.g. writing in an appointments book in our hairdressers role-play area.

The children have started to show excitement for Christmas and have been writing their Christmas lists to post in our special Santa post box. We can’t wait to carry this excitement into December and engage in lots of creative activities before we break up.
