June in the Classroom!

June in the Classroom has seen us learning about safety and the people who help us. We have had interesting visitors to teach us about how they care for people including Holly the student nurse and the local community police officers. Holly told us all about how she makes people feel better, and we got to try on scrubs and use a real stethoscope and blood pressure cuff. We had lots of fun trying on the police protective gear and we even got to sit in the police car! As well as our visitors, we have engaged in lots of role-play and imaginative play opportunities; we have set up beauty salons and styled our friends’ hair, we’ve put out chalk fires in the garden with water, and we’ve made cakes in the sand and set up our own restaurants.

The sun has been shining and the children have enjoyed lots of outdoor play. We’ve talked about sun safety and the importance of wearing a sun hat and sun cream. The children have loved the warm weather but have also loved cooling down with the ice and the water tray. We have also been taking care of our sunflowers and watering them every day – they have grown so tall with our love and care!

The Pre-Schoolers have started their school visits ready for their move up to big school in September, and to ease the this transition we have been trying on school uniform, reading stories about school, and we have been talking about our new schools and teachers during class discussion times. We will continue to do this over the next few months, and everyone is very excited to move onto the next chapter of their lives!
