May in the classroom!
This month in the classroom we have begun prepping our Pre-Schoolers ready for their transition to big school! This is a big change for our children, so to make it easier we have been looking at pictures of our new schools on the computer, discussing our school visits with each other, reading stories about going to school, and the children have been practising dressing up in school uniform in the home corner! This has also tied in with our story of the month ‘The Smartest Giant in Town.’ All of our children have had fun exploring the story box and dressing up in the giant’s clothes and acting out the story itself. Practising to dress themselves prepares our older children to change for PE at school.
Alongside our story of the month box we have also been exploring our rhyme of the month box ‘Miss Polly had a dolly.’ The children have enjoyed taking on the role of the doctor to make the dolly feel better.

The children have had lots of fun exploring the different healthy foods they could eat – we made healthy lunchbox pictures and sorted out the healthy food from the unhealthy food, made some delicious fruit kebabs with Auntie Carole and tried some new fruits, and the children practised their cutting skills making their own sandwiches for snack time to encourage their independence. We have also drawn around our bodies and added body parts, discussing why we need them and how to keep ourselves healthy with a good diet and lots of exercise.

Finally, we have been enjoying both the sunshine and the rain, and exploring the outdoors. We have built obstacle courses to refine our gross motor skills, made beautiful nature bracelets, nature potions and explored using our senses.

We can’t wait to have more fun in June!
