October fun in the classroom!

October in the classroom has seen us enjoying the outdoors in all weathers and temperatures. Our children have been using our interactive weather board every morning during register time, and we have been focusing on Autumn as a season. We have built up quite the collection of leaves thanks to children bringing them in every day for us to see! and we have used them to make beautiful leaf rubbing pictures for our art gallery in the classroom. We also enjoyed making a big picture to take over to the school for their Harvest Festival assembly, and we talked about all of the fruits and vegetables that grow this time of year.

Our themes for this month were ‘storytelling’ and ‘make believe’, and the children have been very creative and imaginative; some have drawn their own storybooks to share with their friends, whereas others have performed puppet shows in the garden using the story sacks. This has been a very busy month for us, as we also celebrated Pink Week with a variety of different sensory activities. We traced letters in pink foam, investigated the pink ice and melted it with salt, and we used the pink play-dough to make birthday cakes as so many of our friends have been turning 4!

Finally, we enjoyed our Halloween Stay and Play with lots of sensory, slimy, spooky activities that everyone had fun taking part in together. October has been great for our sensory play with the wide range of natural resources available to us, and we can’t wait to see the fireworks next month and talk about them with our friends.
