May fun in the Classroom

May in the Classroom has been another busy one, as the Pre-Schoolers have now found out their big school placements and we have been chatting about growing up and big changes. Some children have been on school visits already and have been sharing their experiences with their friends at circle time and during imaginative play. We will be setting up a big school curiosity corner in the room to help prepare the boys and girls for this transition.

We have been learning about staying healthy this month – the children have enjoyed making (and eating) fruit kebabs, talking about their favourite fruits and vegetables at circle time, made healthy food plates, and have been talking about “carbohydrates” and “protein” at the dinner table! We have also been learning about our bodies; what they do and how they keep us healthy. We have enjoyed running or walking our daily mile around the school playground every day, getting our heart rates up and feeling our hearts “beeping fast.”

Alongside this the children have been enjoying our role-play resources. Their favourite was the doctors’ box – we have talked about how doctors make us feel better when we are poorly, and that dentists check our teeth and fix them. There has been a lot of lovely imaginative play in the classroom this month and building friendships.

The children have also been showing an interest in letters and numbers so we have furthered this interest with lots of exciting activities and a daily phonics session.
We had lots of fun at our party for the King’s Coronation and everybody enjoyed the games and dancing.
