December in the classroom!

December has been an exciting month in the Classroom as we have been busy excitedly preparing for Christmas! The children have enjoyed a range of Christmas crafts and festive activities, and they have had lots of fun making lots of lovely things to take home.

We have also enjoyed a festive stay and play evening; the children had lots of fun with parents engaging in the different activities such as making reindeer food, melted snowman gloop, candy cane play dough, and painting Santa faces to take home! We finished off with a cosy story and a hot chocolate. Thank you to the parents and children who attended this evening and made it extra special!

This month we have been reading The Gingerbread Man, and have been carrying out lots of activities based around this story of the month. We have had lots of sensory fun with the gingerbread scented play dough, acted out the story using the little wooden figures, and we have even made and decorated our own gingerbread men! The children have loved baking and following the recipe – we hope to explore even more recipes in the new year and carry on this new interest of making food.

The children have learnt all about the new season ‘Winter’ as we have noticed the weather getting colder, the ground being frosty when we come out to play, and we have been experimenting and leaving water out to freeze over night. The boys and girls know to dress up warm in hats and scarves, and we have started to make use of our interactive weather board at register times! After all of our snowman activities, some of the children are even hoping for snow soon.

The children have had lots of fun these last few months and we can’t wait to have more and learn more starting January 2024. Finally, we would like to say Merry Christmas and can’t wait to see everybody again in the new year!
