St Bernadette’s Pre-school aims to provide high quality care and education for children and a secure foundation for learning in an encouraging and nurturing environment, where there is an equality of opportunity and support for all and where staff and parents or carers work in close partnership.
History of St. Bernadette’s Pre-school nursery
St. Bernadette’s Pre-school Nursery started in a wooden hut on Bispham gala field before moving into St.Bernadette’s parish hall in 1990. Like all playgroups at that time, the children would come along for about 2 hrs to play and then go home. The staffs at that time were all mums of the children that attended.
We have seen many changes and developments in childcare over the years, and in August 2003 we moved into new purpose built premises allowing us to expand into full day care offering sessional / full day care to children ages 2 to 5 years between 09.00am and 04.30pm. From 1/06 we extended our hours to open from 8am.
August 2006 saw the extension of the building to provide a baby unit for up to 9 babies.
We now open 8am to 5.30pm offering sessional / full day care for children aged 6 months to 5 years.
We are a committee ran nursery and the chair of the committee is Alexis Satterswaite the Head of St Bernadette’s primary school. The nursery committee meet four times a year.
